About pydap
I started developing pydap for my PhD thesis, to access NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data with Python. It quickly evolved from a quick–afternoon–hack to a robust framework for developing DAP servers and automating data download.
No, really.
Ok, let me start again. I develop pydap mostly for fun. But I also have a great passion for the way technologies are changing the world by making the world smaller and bringing minds together. Pydap is a part of that, helping people share and access data in an easy and efficient way.
I received a lot of help and support while developing pydap: a few donations, lots of feedback and bug reports, a grant from Google, mentoring. I'm currently doing my post-doc at the brazilian space agency, INPE, using the opportunity to deploy a DAP server for meteorological data. I'm immensely grateful for all the people that helped me over all these years, including:
- Guilherme Castelão
- Nelson Castillo
- Rob Cermak
- Peter Desnoyers
- Bob Drach
- Paul Dubois
